Toilet Retrofit / Water Fixture Upgrade

97 Unit Building - circa 1960 Year of Construction. Savings =  $70 / day or $25,760 over one (1) Year.
Total Project Cost:  Parts +  Materials + Labour =   $23,500. Payback:  11 mos

  • 55 out of 97 Toilets were replaced with 3.0L units

  • Showerheads upgraded to 1.5 GPM

  • Kitchen Aerators upgraded to 1.5 GPM

  • Bath Vanity Aerators upgraded to 1.0 GPM

Before: Consumption per unit / day  = 0.62 m3 / unit / day. After:  Consumption per unit / day  =  0.45 m3 / unit / day

As a result of:

  1. replacing toilets that were > 3.0 L

  2. replacing shower heads and;

  3. installing aerators on kitchen sinks and bath vanities

The leak rate as a percentage of total consumption was reduced from 18% to 0%.  In addition to eliminating the leaks, the per unit usage on a daily basis has dropped as a result of the more efficient toilets being rolled out. The building inventory of toilets are now all 3.0L with a mix of ProFlo (new ones installed) and Hennesy Henchcliffe (legacy 3.0 L already installed).

  • Daily volume dropped from 60k / day to approx 40k / day

  • Elimination of leak rate by address toilets, showerheads and aerators
